A Look at Standard RV Window Sizes

RV windows are wildly varied in shape and type but in this article we are going to first take a quick look at some of the types of windows to set the stage for why there are so many RV windows sizes. Ultimately, we’ll look at some of the more common RV window sizes that are used across various types of campers.

What Are the Types of RV Windows?

The RV window types are fixed windows, sliding windows, awning windows, emergency exit windows, and skylights — additionally you’ll see descriptors like jalousie and frameless applied to these types, or listed as types of their own.

Here is a bit more info on RV window types:

• Fixed windows – cannot be opened, and are often in place as a source of light and views, as well as for aesthetics
• Sliding windows – are found frequently on RVs as a source of ventilation control and fresh air, they can slide pane-over-pane either horizontally or vertically depending on the size and location of the window on the RV
• Awning windows – found on various camper types and vans, these windows don’t slide open, but rather pivot and rotate out so that the window forms an awning make them a popular choice for RV ventilation during rainy conditions (note these are separate from window awnings which can be places over most window types to get the same effect)
• Skylights – not always considered windows, these are on RV roofs to provide sunlight, and for some, ventilation

Now that we have a sense of the types let’s talk about sizes. When doing research for this article, I looked at 4 top RV window sellers, documented their product catalog, and then tallied up the sizes sold across these vendors.  Although their is certainly more, this list shows that there are at least 60 different RV window sizes.

What Are The Standard RV Window Sizes?

The most common RV window sizes (Width x Height) in descending order are 12×22, 48×22, 14×16, 14×22, 30×20, 24×15, 42×22, 24X22, 12×24, 15×22, 24×20, 36×22, 24×24, 18×18, 21×14, and 12×18, which about 60% of the listings across the retailers in the dataset.

RV Window Widths

The table below looks at just the widths represented in the dataset, regardless of their height. The most common RV window widths are 12in and 24in, followed by 14in, 30in, and 18in rounding out the top 5. The 12in numbers are driven mostly by the popular 12×22 size that came out a the top of the overall list and the 24in sizes is driven by the 24×22, 24×20, and 24×24 sizes that all were all towards the top of the overall list.

RV Window Heights

This table is the same as above but for heights. 22in is by far the most common RV window height, followed by 24in, 15in, 20in, and 18 inch.

Conclusion

We’ve learned about RV window types and common sizes. It’s not something you’ll need to know often outside of RV manufacturers and window shade sellers. Though the specific sizes and ranges come into play if you are looking for RV window shades or Reflectix for insulation.
